However, not all employers have fully embraced the possibilities. The Small Business Benefit Trends report stated that small HR departments are working harder than they should due to outdated processes and systems. The manual processes in these departments lead to administrative burnout and resource waste.

Managing benefits is one of the most complex HR processes, so it requires modern digitized solutions. In addition to hindering efficiency, outdated systems fail to streamline processes.
Some of the signs that show that the employee benefits technology might be outdated are as follows:
Manual processes are still used by organizations: Organizations may have to rely on manual processes if their software is clunky, slow, or glitchy. Even if the organization only uses some of the features available, there is little point in having technology in place that they don't use.
Among all departments, HR has some of the most time-consuming manual processes. The first step is to send out open enrollment emails. Each employee's information must then be entered and transferred to the carrier's system. Any time an employee changes their benefits or new hire is onboarded, this process is repeated.
All this can be accomplished with software systems, but only if they are intuitive and streamlined. Organizations may need a new user-friendly version of their current system if it lacks usability or they aren't using most of its features.
Bugs and delays are plaguing: Upgrading the technology if it runs slowly or takes forever to start or load new programs is essential. It may be necessary to upgrade software, hardware, or the internet connection if the technology is slow.
When upgrading and working with support doesn't resolve the issue, it's time to consider a new solution. Regardless of the organization's needs, there are a number of options for employee benefits technology.
The organization has a more advanced team: The younger generation of talent is more tech savvy and won't tolerate poor security, lengthy processes, or a lack of self-service options. Employees expect self-service options for benefits in particular. It not only ruins their experience but also burdens the HR department.
Onboarding is a key component of acclimating new hires to the company and establishing a culture. Organizations can also help them select benefits packages by educating them about their benefits program.
The hiring process should be streamlined and straightforward, but if it isn't, new hires might think the company doesn't care about the employee experience, or they are not innovative. It's crucial to make the hiring and retention process as positive as possible during a time when organizations are struggling to attract and retain talent.
