The following are six steps you should include in your onboarding checklist:
1. Make it Official With HR
Before making a recruiting choice, submit a job requisition paper to your company's human resources department for approval. Before a new employee can be formally hired, the HR staff may require a completed background check and drug test.
2. Complete The Paperwork For New Hires
Gather all of the paperwork that the recruit will need to complete on their first day, including tax documents, various contracts or agreements, payroll information, and other new employee forms. Print out the employee handbook and give your new hire information about the benefits package to review. Please make a point of contact for the new hire if they have queries regarding their perks or salary. Printing the job description to remind the company's expectations for the role might also be beneficial.
3. Procure Devices and Equipment
To guarantee that everything is ready to go on the new hire's first day, request all devices and equipment several days ahead of time. Then, when an employee arrives, everything from their computer and phone to their keyboard and mouse should be connected and ready to use.
4. Set Up Accounts and Create Logins
Ensure the person is set up in all relevant systems and has all of the necessary assets to access the facility by contacting your IT team, facilities manager, and accounting department. Ensure their work email is configured and gather their login credentials for various tools and platforms so they don't have difficulties accessing the programs and software they require.
5. Set Up Your Work Area
Ascertain that your new hire has a clean desk and chair and any other items they may require at their workstation. To make a welcome kit for their workspace, gather company-branded items, office supplies, or a modest present like a mug or tiny plant for their desk. In addition, consider delivering a box of swag to the employee's home address if they will be working remotely.
6. Arrange For New Hire Orientation.
Schedule a new hire orientation for the employee's first day on the job. This will, in theory, allow the employee not just to sign documents but also to learn about the company's culture, see the organizational structure, and see how different departments communicate.
