There’s no denying that helping people or supporting a worthy cause can be one of the most rewarding experiences in life. However, in today’s fast-paced work environment, it’s not always easy to find opportunities to give back or support philanthropic initiatives. How can employees be empowered to do good at their workplace?

This is the inspiration behind NEKI, a social impact community. NEKI brings the concept of office philanthropy to fruition, making personal social values an integral part of day-to-day life for employees and organizations. It not only boosts employee job satisfaction but also helps to create a more inclusive, diverse, and supportive work environment for everyone on the team.

“Our social impact platform is like LinkedIn, but for philanthropy. It is the mainstay around which employees can connect, share, and engage within their work-based community with nonprofits through impact-driven activities and conversations,” says Ron Dutta, founder and CEO of NEKI.

NEKI’s highly personalized platform assists companies in empowering their employees to create a social impact at their workplace by allowing them to connect with the causes that they care about. It curates a set of causes and projects for them to support and helps them contribute to ones that are best aligned with their values. Additionally, it offers organizations the option to adopt nonprofits and make them part of their core organization.

NEKI enables access to over 200,000 nonprofits across the U.S., allowing the employees of various companies to make donations, volunteer, and provide other support.

A little over a year ago, a company with approximately 100 employees approached NEKI, intending to enhance brand value in a highly competitive marketplace while addressing their employee attrition and engagement challenges. While onboarding the organization, NEKI’s team devised a social impact strategy.

It curated causes from specific markets that the organization’s clients, employees, and vendors were part of.

The connections created in the process and the mutual passion for the same causes resulted in new contracts and an increase in the organization’s brand value. The employees also felt more motivated toward their organization as it became purpose-driven. This resulted in improved employee retention.

NEKI enables companies to seamlessly onboard all employees to the platform. It also offers automatic donation deductions and allows the organizations to match employee donations, doubling the benefit to the nonprofits. Companies can set their contribution budgets based on their tax brackets and financials.

NEKI is an enterprise solution integrated with multiple identity management services, like Okta and Auth0, which allows them to leverage cloud capabilities, making it secure and seamless for the employees to register and log in with their company credentials.

NEKI also integrates with Slack and Microsoft Teams to provide impact updates and facilitate impact-driven conversations among employees. It also enhances brand value through a public website showcasing companies’ social impact initiatives.

It is a highly flexible platform from an administrative perspective. Organizations have access to advanced analytics and key performance indicators to understand how their employees engage with nonprofits.

Organizations can brand the NEKI platform according to their preferences, including customizing its appearance to reflect their brand and adding their logo. Users can also enable and disable features.

NEKI has a reward system to incentivize employees. Its “employee challenge” concept guides them through minor challenges in their everyday lives. For example, it nudges the employees to take up challenges like switching off the lights for 15 minutes a day to save energy and rewards anyone who completes it, enabling even more contributions to social and environmental causes.

Driven by the objective of fostering a purposeful work culture across organizations, NEKI brings people together, strengthening employee engagement and retention while making a social impact.
